What is the convergence?

In the fall of 2022, a few leaders from University Unitarian Church and University Congregational United Church of Christ starting talking about our need for nourishment and encouragement for the ongoing work of liberation. As these conversations continued to evolve, we began to imagine several gatherings with folks from around the Greater Seattle area.

These dreams started to expand and take form as more leaders and organizations became part of the planning. We are excited to invite you into this anti-racist movement for collective liberation.

What are the different events?

PRAXIS: a workshop for religious/spiritual leaders to generate lessons, culture, and power for collective liberation

Saturday, April 15, 2023, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

This workshop is designed for folks engaged in leadership or interested in leadership within their communities. This is great for members of an anti-racism team, a congregation council or board, finance teams, and staff supervisors.

Anti-racist Parenting for Collective Liberation

Sunday, April 16, 2023, 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

This participatory workshop with focus on sharing stories and insights with an understanding that there are many ways that we do this/can do this in our families, and that sharing and being in community together can help us feel more connected, grounded and capable.

CONVERGENCE: Heart and Soul Nourishment for Anti-racism and Collective Liberation

Saturday, April 22, 2023, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This gathering is open to all and is designed to encourage and uplift us. The gathering will include music, sharing, learning, and connecting.

Learn more about each event here.

Who will attend these events?

Each event will have a different configuration of participants. PRAXIS is geared toward leaders (committee chairs, committee members, clergy, board members, folx looking to develop leadership skills). The Anti-racist Parenting group will gather parents, grandparents, and care-givers. The CONVERGENCE is designed to welcome everyone - newbies and seasoned leaders, social justice warriors and curious neighbors.

Is this a "churchy" event?

Yes and no.
The event was born out of shared values in an interfaith context. We are intentionally inviting faith communities and many of the leaders and planners will speak about how their faith connects to this work. We are also specifically working with secular groups and will work to cultivate a space that works for folks not in faith communities.
